There is a package thief or three in my neighborhood, and lots of items have gone missing, not just from my house but from many in my area . I have a package coming in that I don’t want to have delivered that was shipped via FedEx SmartPost. When I go to FedEx’s website I’m told that I can’t place it for hold because it was shipped SmartPost. When I go to the USPS site I’m told that I can’t place it for hold at the post office because it’s a SmartPost package. WTF? How in the fuck to I get someone to NOT deliver my package? I get off work at 2:00pm and will happily pick it up elsewhere because I am tired of giving my shit to thieves. Why is this request seemingly impossible? I thought people would be happy not to do their job...

because FedEx. I have had the opposite problem, where they flat out refused to deliver a package to my house where theft is completely nonexistent, yet I could not authorize delivery for the life of me.

Do you have any Amazon lockers in your area?

They do, but this package wasn’t sent by Amazon...

I lived in Oakland for a year. Day 1, I walked a half mile down the street to the UPS Store and opened a UPS box there. Yes, it was a monthly fee, but they happy signed, received , and watched over my packages. Still miss that place. The folks that worked that location were super nice, always remembered my name and that I was the “package guy”. When I moved in, I had all my stuff shipped FedEx to that store. I damn near filled the place from wall to wall with my apartment stuff and they just smiled and lent me a cart to get them to my car.
Worth. Every. Penny.

God, I love those. 2-minute walk to get something a full day earlier.

If the carriers refuse to acquiesce to your requests, call the police, file criminal complaints about the package thieves, and add that FedEx is refusing to hold packages for you (thereby making them easy to steal).
If a cop shows up at their distribution center, that’ll probably get Management to stop being dillholes.

I don’t even bother dealing with the courier anymore. Call the company that shipped the package, have them intercede on your behalf. Assuming they’re a decent company, they’re either small and will put in the work to take care of you because they need every good review they can get, or they’re larger and know the proper channels to cut through the shipping BS and get things taken care of.

Do they have a number to call?

We’ve had a rash of package thefts in our neighborhood, so I use the lockers whenever possible.

It’s weird that FedEx wouldn’t just hold it...on SmartPost stuff they handle all the movement, then give it to USPS for final delivery. They could just as easily not make that handoff. However, what I’d do in this case is wait until USPS acquires the package and then try and get them to hold it; until USPS actually receives the package none of their tracking or whatever works, so you may luck out once they get it.
